The country’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India, has launched the new Maruti Suzuki Dzire. We all know that the Dzire is the best-selling sedan in India, by quite some distance, enjoying a handsome share of nearly 50% in the overall sedan segment (compact + mid-size) and 61% in the compact sedan segment. A lot of changes have been made to the new Dzire compared to the old Dzire. It is a generation change, basically, and generation changes are accompanied by significant enhancements.
New Dzire exterior
The new Dzire has a completely fresh design. The front fascia is different from that of the new Swift. Till the third generation of the Dzire and the Swift, Maruti Suzuki had a similar front fascia for both cars. But now they are different, considering the kind of customers the carmaker wants to attract for the two models.
New Dzire interior
But coming back to the new Dzire vs. old Dzire comparison, here are five major differences that will help you decide whether to choose the former.
New Dzire engine
The old Dzire used the popular K-Series 1.2-litre 4-cylinder Dual-Jet Dual-VVT petrol engine (89.7PS and 113Nm). This engine has been replaced by the Z12E 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine (81.58PS and 111.7Nm) in the new Dzire. Although the power and torque figures have declined, Maruti Suzuki claims that it is one of the world’s most fuel-efficient engines. The transmission options remain the same at 5-speed MT and 5-speed AMT.
Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) or Auto Gear Shift (AGS)
That Suzuki makes some of the most fuel-efficient petrol engines is not a secret. While the old Dzire had excellent mileage, the new Dzire is even better when it comes to mileage.
The old Dzire had a claimed mileage of 23.26kmpl for MT and 24.12kmpl for AMT. It has improved to 24.79kmpl for MT and 25.71kmpl for AMT.
New Dzire crash test at Global NCAP
Now, this is very important. Maruti Suzuki cars have always performed poorly in Global NCAP crash tests. They have garnered pretty low scores. When the old Dzire was tested, it got two stars each in adult safety and child safety.
The new Dzire has scored five stars in the adult occupant protection category and four stars in the child occupant protection category at Global NCAP, making it the safest car Maruti Suzuki has ever made for the Indian market. The 2024 Dzire comes with six airbags and electronic stability control (ESC), among other safety features, as standard, helping it garner high safety ratings.
However, one must understand that Global NCAP is an external agency. It has not been accredited by the Indian government. And, Maruti Suzuki cars have always complied with all the safety regulations in India.
New Dzire prices
While the old Dzire was priced between Rs 6.56 lakh and Rs 9.39 lakh (ex-showroom), the new Dzire has received a price hike with all the upgrades it now boasts. The 2024 Dzire sits in the price range of Rs 6.79 lakh to Rs 10.14 lakh (ex-showroom).
Maruti Suzuki Tour S
The old Dzire (Tour S) did fleet duties. 30-35% of its volume came from the fleet segment. But Maruti Suzuki will not provide the new Dzire for the fleet segment.
Also, Maruti Suzuki has not discontinued the Tour S. It will continue with its fleet duties.
